Romain Langasque was seven under for his last six holes at St Andrews as he shot an opening 61 to equal Ross Fisher's record at the Old Course. He carded two eagles, eight birdies and a single bogey on Thursday to open up a one-shot lead on 11 under par. He said: "It's amazing. I think it's something I will remember for the rest of my life."

French players shine in Scotland

Langasque wasn't the only Frenchman who made an impression on day one, with Frederic Lacroix posting a spotless 62 over at Kingsbarns Golf Links to sit alone in second place.
