Fox flew to another title, a much-missed regular was remembered, Shinkwin and Acquavella took team glory and some Ukrainian juniors had an experience they will never forget on the final day of the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Flying Fox a winner again

Ryan Fox secured a memorable victory in front of his family, firing a closing 68 on the Old Course to win by a single shot. Fox began the day four shots behind but held a three-shot advantage with three holes to play as wife Anneke and parents Adele and Grant - the former All Blacks fly-half - watched on. He suffered a late scare at the 17th but managed to limit the damage to just one dropped shot before safely parring the last to claim his second DP World Tour title of the 2022 campaign and third in all. He finished the tournament on 15 under par after carding seven birdies and three bogeys, one shot clear of Callum Shinkwin and Alex Noren.

Cricketing great Warne fondly remembered

Fox remembered former Team Championship partner Shane Warne after claiming his third DP World Tour crown in Scotland. The Kiwi finished runner-up in the 2021 team event in Scotland with cricket great Warne, who died earlier this year. He said: "To be honest the only person I can really think of at the moment is Warnie. He meant a lot to me and this event and was a great mate. It's a terrible shame he's not here. There was definitely some luck out there. Obviously I was pretty nervy the last three holes. I didn't hit very good shots, to be honest, down the 16th, 17th and 18th. He was definitely helping out."

Shinkwin and Acquavella crowned Team champions

Shinkwin and Alex Acquavella posted a brilliant final-round 63 to take Team Championship glory over the Old Course. American art dealer Acquavella had made the cut just once in seven previous appearances at this event but found the winning chemistry alongside Shinkwin to win by three shots from Christiaan Burke and Canadian businessman Bruce Mitchell. “We’ve never played together before but Callum was a real gentleman from the first day we met," said Acquavella. "He’s been so supportive this week. I was very nervous today. I started to feel it even more on the back nine but I managed to have three good holes so I was happy and now I can go home and celebrate with the family.”

Ukrainian juniors have a day to remember

A group of junior golfers from Ukraine visited the championship on Sunday as part of a special camp run by the R&A. They visited the Sky studio and then met Adrian Meronk and Rory McIlroy before joining Fox on the Swilcan Bridge. The juniors were attending the camp in Peebles as part of a project aimed at supporting their development and education after war broke out in their homeland in March.

Both Noren and Acquavella managed to catch a break at the last.
