Fisher thrilled to return to Doha Golf Club

Oliver Fisher is delighted to be back at a golf course that holds some fond memories for him as he prepares to tee it up at this week's Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Fisher has been coming to Doha Golf Club since 2007 and went close to lifting the trophy for the first time last year when he finished second behind champion Eddie Pepperell.

It has been a busy 12 months for the Englishman since then, with September seeing him become the first man in European Tour history to shoot a round of 59 in the second round of the Portugal Masters, and his wedding and honeymoon taking place over the festive period.

The 30-year-old is excited to be back in Qatar for a tournament he knows well.

He said: "I really enjoy coming back here. It's nice to come back to somewhere that's familiar.

"I had a decent week here last year and it's good to look back at some good memories having played well here.

"It's not too tough off the tee and there's usually a good breeze. You need to control your ball flight with your irons and you need to be careful with the pace on the greens.

"They can be quite quick at times and with some of them being exposed to the wind, you can get some quick ones and some tricky putts with some breaks.

"It’s important to read the greens really well. Leave yourself in positions that are playable."

Fisher is looking to make his first cut of 2019 this week and has set his sights on enjoying himself.

He added: "I had a great off-season. Got married and honeymooned over Christmas.

"I feel like I'm working on the right things. It's a funny game. Sometimes it gives you nothing when you're playing great – other times when you feel off something can pop up when you least expect it.

"I need to manage my expectations and enjoy myself a little bit. It's easy to get a bit down when you're not on a great run. It's always nice to come back to a place like this."
