Eddie Pepperell was pleased to reap the benefits of his bravery at the par-five 18th as he closed his second-round 65 with an impressive birdie on day two of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
The Englishman turned in 34 on Friday before catching fire after the turn, birdieing the tenth, 11th and 14th as well as finishing with a hat-trick of gains at the 16th, 17th and 18th.
He heads into the weekend in a share of second place on ten under par, three shots behind halfway leader Scott Jamieson.
The highlight of Pepperell's round came at the last - the most difficult of Leopard Creek Country Club's par fives.
While a lot of others either played safe or found the water, Pepperell took it on with a four iron and went on to make a birdie.
He said: "Every time I get on that hole I say to my caddie 'if we're going with any more than a six iron, we won't go for it', and it was a four iron - and I went for it!
"It's one of those. I think because the flag was quite a tough one to pitch to, I thought 'take it on, try to hit the high four iron'.
"And I actually caught it a groove low and it came out a bit low and I'm probably a bit lucky that it hung on.
"But sometimes you have to be brave on these par fives and I didn't play the par fives well up until the last.
"Nice to finish with a four."
